Chad,
I had been wondering why you wanted to wire your Power Station like a Crafter's Station. Your comment below explained that.
The only reason I am attempting to have a Power Station with a bi-directional motor is to be used with the Strip Sander, and the chisel sharpening attachment, (which must have the sanding belt moving in the "up hill" direction).
I think that is a great idea having a separate power source to run a Strip Sander backwards to sharpen Chisels. The Strip Sander used for sharpening Chisels is better than using the Chisel Sharpening Guide. I have used both.
Let me know if there is any information you would like about my Power Stations and/or my Crafter's Station. My Power Stations were made in 1989 and 1992. My Crafter's Station was made in 1998.

Russ,
Thanks for all your help as well. I too own, and have used the strip sander setup, and the sharping guide for the Buck Bros. Shopsmith chisels. It's my honest opinion the strip sander setup is far superior for sharpening most any chisel.
I have always thought Shopsmith could have put more effort into the design of the carriage for the Crafter's Station. It is nowhere near that of a Shopsmith Mark V, 7, VII.
I have also heard vibration is a huge problem when using the Crafter's Station as a table saw. Have you found that to be a issue as well? I would have to only guess with the lightweight structure of the Crafter's Station it would take a creative solution to dampen vibration.

To be completely honest, if the motor on my Power Station ever goes south, and must be replaced, I have already decided I will replace it with a 3/4 HP. with 1750 r.p.m. run speed.
My jointer lives on my Mark V, and I do not currently own the scroll saw. Even if I had the scroll saw, I would have either the Mark mounted version, or one that is a stand alone tool.
So, I have no need for higher speeds on the Power Station. Plus, a added bonus for being able to saw various materials on my bandsaw with much lower r.p.m.'s with the Power Station, i.e. plastics. Resawing might be easier as well.

The question was not asked of me but I speak my piece anyway. I have many hours logged on either the Crafters Station or the Power Station and I'll say both are noisier than the Mark but vibration has not been an issue. The noise and vibration eminent from the power transmission box. They have both been great job site table saws. Though they do have limitations as a function of table size. I've cut truck loads of 2xs there.

Most of all, thank you, dusty. Without your initial involvement with this thread over 10 years ago, along with the valuable information you've shared. I would not have even considered modifying my Power Station. The possibility just did not occur to me before I stumbled upon this thread.
The way the motor of the Power Station is mounted is very rigid. Perhaps some rubber isolates in the slots of the motor mounting plate might help with noise and vibration, somewhat?
When 75th anniversary event for the 10ER was celebrated last year, a silent auction was held at Shopsmith HQ. One of the items was a Crafter's Station. I attended the event with prior knowledge that the Crafter's Station would be apart of the auction. It was the only item I had planned to bid on. Unfortunately for me, was pulled from the auction before it began. I wanted it to do exactly what I'll do with my Power Station now, nothing more.
When I was over at Shopsmith last week picking up parts I had ordered; I wondered if the Crafter's Station was still in the warehouse. Sure enough, it was still sitting under the same pallet racking right next to Sue Powell's (Dr. Shopsmith) repair area. Perhaps it is used occasionally as some sort of test stand? I can only guess.

Chad,
As I said previously, I have not had the Crafter's Station for very long and have not had time to really use it. As for its function I would go with Dusty's opinion on it.
There was a thread some time back where someone (I can't recall who) added angle iron stiffeners to the underside of the bench as shown below. It may be able to be used on the Crafter's Station depending on any interference with the mounting of the Carriage. The Carriage bolts through the bench top in the same area where the angle iron is.

Bracket dimensions are shown in the PDF attached below. Make the second bracket a mirror image of the first.

As for the "Carriage" you are right there is not much to it. The "Carriage" for those of you who are not that familiar with the Crafter's Station, can be seen below, under the power cord. There is no raising or lowering mechanism for the table like there is on the Marks. Mine came with Collars to help with setting the Table height but if I decide to use it much, I may get a pair of Adjustable Stop Collars for it.

The Crafter's Station was designed off the Power Station so there were limitations on what could be done. It certainly can't provide all the functions of a Mark V nor was it intended too.

The Jointer, although it can be used on the Power Station or Crafter's Station, is the one standard mounted SPT I would not use on them because the speed range is much lower on the Power and Crafter's Stations than it is on the Marks. It can be done but the cutter head turns much slower so material must be feed way slower to adjust for that. The 12" Planer is not a standard mounted SPT and therefore cannot be used on the Power or Crafter's Stations.

JPG,
Thanks for remembering who did that modification. If I could have remembered it was Buckeye Dennis I certainly would have credited him.
I have added his name to the file of the parts list I have for that modification, so I don't forget again.
