can anyone tell me what I have here?
I have a scroll saw like the one in the image here. I cannot find out anything about it on the SS site. Does anyone know when these were produced? And more importantly, does anyone know the blade size? I want to order some new blades and don't know the size at the moment. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
I don't understand why this forum wont let me attach a picture (I have to link to a picture? What the...) so here's a link to a craigslist ad for the saw I have: http://kansascity.craigslist.org/tls/3043534542.html

That saw was made by Magna America in the 60's.

Jigsaw
This is the Shopsmith jigsaw, not a scroll saw. I owned one for many years and sold it because I never used it but a few times. If you do a search on eBay you will find the blades listed from time to time; however, there are none currently listed. I recommend you contact Shopsmith and they can tell you who makes blades that will fit it. Below is the Shopsmith FAQ link regarding the jigsaw:

I'm not sure if it's the correct way to use the jig saw but I remove the upper arm and install standard hand held jig saw blades in the lower mount and it works just fine if the blade is stiff enough.

In this configuraiton, it is referred to a s a 'Saber Saw', and it works quite well on thin wood. Haven't tried it on metal.fredsheldon wrote:I'm not sure if it's the correct way to use the jig saw but I remove the upper arm and install standard hand held jig saw blades in the lower mount and it works just fine if the blade is stiff enough.
