Pro Planer part fell off

Post by sawdustdan »

I was using my Pro Planer (first time in a long time) and a small part fell out of the bottom.

It looks like a square drive, and it's 1/4" x 1/4" and about 1/2" long.

I can't figure out what it is. The only place it looks like it fits (which doesn't make sense) is in the axle of the top pulley of the belt assembly.

Here's a picture: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ydstzdkteac80 ... erPart.jpg

Any help would be appreciated!

Looks like a shaft key used on either the planer or motor pulley.

Rob,

Thanks for the quick reply. That's sounds like the official name of the place I tried to describe... :)

It fits pretty loosely in that slot - is that the way it's supposed to be? Is there something I'm missing?

It obviously should not be loose and I WOULD EXPECT that there are set screws in both locations to secure the shaft keys in place.

In fact, looking at the image you posted, I think I see where the set screw has been.

It has been so long since I have been down into my proplaner that I am not sure.

PS: The illustrated parts list does not show set screws but they are there. I had to go look to be sure. Pull the belt cover and look in behind the pulleys; you will find them.

Awesome, thanks to both of you!
