What is it?

Post by dgreen810 »

Some knowledgeable person please tell us what this headstock is? What is it used for? Appears to have a blower fan on the front or vacuum if run in reverse. Have no idea what the drive on the back is for? Appears to be SS made.

I have never seen one like it.

It doesn't look like any headstock I have ever seen? Tell me what the blower on the motor shaft and vertical gear drive on the back side are for?

I looked at all the videos on the Shopsmith site and don't see anything like it.

Click on the headstock link.

The impeller on the front was indeed for an ineffectual vacuum(the blower housing was polystyrene and fragile and is missing).

Thanks! I have never seen one before. Super photos on the disassembly. I would like see one in action. Looks like a bunch of engineers got drunk and had an "organism". Where each one had a pet idea, put all in a hat and built the thing. ;)
