Thicknessing with the disk sander or drill press???

I have several lengths of 5/16X5/16 stock that I need to bring down a 32nd or so.
I know I've seen jigs to use the disk sander or a small drum sander in the DP, but I can't find any thing on this forum or on YouTube.
Can anyone point me in the right direction.

I do this operation quite a bit. I install the drum sander on the quill and locate the table under the drum sander. Verify that the table is parallel to the drum sander and raise the table to make contact with the sander. I like to use the adjustable stop collar to sneak up on the thickness I want the final piece to be. Be sure to feed the stock in from the backside so the piece isn't pulled out of your hand. Reverse on the Power Pro comes in nice for this operation.

I don't think that you even need a jig. Mount the 3" drum sander with the machine horizontal, and adjust the table so that the drum clears the top of it by the desired thickness. On my 520, I can sand stock up to about an inch thick with this setup. Just be sure to feed the workpiece against the sanding direction, unless you
want a wood-strip launcher!

A while back, like almost a year or so, I used the drum sander in the horizontal mode, not DP, to accomplish some thickness sanding on some small pieces. For my own info as a reference in case I wanted to ever do it again, I wrote up some details of what I did. I thought about posting it to the forum back then, but I did a little searching of previous posts and discovered that a lot of this subject had been discussed already, so I held off. But after seeing your request, I think I will put out here and maybe it will be of some help.
I never have tried attaching a Word file to a posting at this forum before, so please let me know if you have trouble getting to it.

No problem here, LibreOffice Writer opened it just fine.

thanks for converting the .doc file, JPG...hopefully that will make it more accessible to some. Interesting, though, somehow the captions on the two photos got reversed in the process.

The pix captions were reversed when I downloaded them into open office. They are also reversed when I download them into wordpad.
