Trying to find main table upgrade for mark v 500

Post by jeffo »

I have a Mark V 500 that has an old main table without Tee slots, it has just plain slots that can't accept the accessories that will lock down to the Tee slots! I know you can get an upgrade kit that comes with the main table, but I'm not looking to spend over $1000, when all I want is the new style table!

You may only want a new style table but you will need to buy a couple of other things to go with it because The 510/520 style main table will not fit in a 500 carriage or attach to 500 trunnions. So, you will need at a minimum a new carriage and a new main table. You will also need a 510/520 rip fence because your old rip fence won't span the new table. You may also want a new upper and lower saw guard to go with it for safety and dust collection.

You could order these pieces individually from Shopsmith or keep an eye on ebay for the parts you want or see what pops up locally on craigslist. From time to time you can get an entire 510 for $500 in my area and even an occasional 520 for that price.

Algale, that would be fine with me, but how do I find the package I need??
$500 would be acceptable, is there a list of needed parts that is specific, as it's inevitable that maybes will result in problems !!

Thanks for any help!!

If your only reason is to get the t-slot table, you could get a 510 table and carriage used on e-bay. The larger table will create problems with the existing arbors, but that only requires extending the quill slightly to place the blade in the slot.

Table/carriage That is all.

Unless you also want to get the longer arbors, then you will need that rubber sleeve carriage spacer.

However I also suggest getting a matching extension table. A floating table will also work since the mounting tubes you currently have will fit, but a complete extension table would be better, then you will have two for supporting long stuff.

Here is most of a more expensive 520 upgrade. There is no upper or lower saw guard. On ebay, complete saw guard goes for $50 to $100

If you haven't already found what you are seeking.

Had a buddy in Houston who did the upgrade to a 520 Table System from a 510. He found someone on craigslist who would pay 450$ for his old 510 Table before he chose to buy the 520. He delivered the parts to the buyer 200 miles away.

You could also advertise the reverse way in Craigslist etc.:

Something like "Thinking of Upgrading your Shopsmith to a 520 from a 510? I'll buy your old parts! Watch the freight costs. They can add up a bit.
