Air Exchanger Controller Replacement

So when I moved into my new home a few years back, the air exchanger controller was missing the cover, which made it very difficult to change any of the settings. Especially since I had no knob to even turn. So today, I changed that situation.

I decided to build a replacement cover for the unit. Turned my own knob on the lathe, manufactured a shaft that locks into the knob and the circuit board on the band saw, Did some miter joints with some nice splines for decoration, Routed out a nice slot to place the 1/4" plywood panel, used the drill press to lay precise holes to show the LED indicators, and even used some hot glue to defuse the LED lights towards the front of the panel since they were sunken behind the panel, not to mention there are no holes now. Oh, and almost forgot the spring loaded button on the bottom to change modes.

Now I will just have to find a nice way to label everything. The main reason I made one however, is that they won't sell me the plastic cover, only the entire electrical controller for around $100-$150. So now I have a pine, maple, birch, and walnut controller that is a minimum a conversation piece.

I have heard those exact words used to describe certain persons. They were not meant to be 'complimentary'.

It this case we can take the words literally!

I do not have access to a laser engraver, I may end up doing clear labels onto it, or even attempt a laser printer toner transfer using an iron... Not sure what will be the best approach yet.

At least this looks better than the open circuit board on the wall as it has been for the last 5 years.

Maybe you should consider like a vintage Italian sports car where there are no labels on any of the switches. I think they figure if you are going to mess with it you will know what the buttons and switches are for !

If only that was the case. I have a picture of an actual cover taped to the wall at the moment to show me the settings. But, maybe i could hide that inside instead lol.

Love the analogy by the way, it may actually sway me to avoid clear labels, etc... Great concept!
