living room tables

My daughter has moved into her own small apartment and I have been tasked with making tables for the living area. I need to make a TV stand and coffee table. The TV stand will only be about 10" x36" while the coffee table will be about 20" x 40". She chose a design from an old Woodsmith magazine made from cherry with maple accents. I have made an end table as a prototype. I am not sure if I like the width of the beading strip and the reveal frame. I am thinking of cutting them down to about half their width.

Really nice Brenda. I agree with you on the above. They need to be a bit narrower.

OK I know. The workmanship on the table is perfect but I do agree alittle smaller on the bead would fit better.

Not sure if the 3/8" bull nose beading was to match the round over on legs and top but I think 1/4" or smaller would be better. I also think the maple reveal should only be about 5/8" or 3/4" instead of 1 1/4". The cherry legs and apron are only 2" wide so I believe that is why the maple parts appear too large.

I finished the end table with a coat of shellac sanding sealer and then a few coats of poly on it. I like the look of the grain on the table top.

I found several that wide at my local sawmill/lumber yard. The boards were also about 9 feet long. I had a couple that had interesting grain patterns that I set aside for the tops. The finished width is 9 in. for the end table and I have a couple boards that are S2S 11" or wider for the coffee table top and shelf that I want to glue up for a wider panel. The local sawmill/lumber yard does not advertise much. Local signs and a Facebook site but most customers are word of mouth. https://www.facebook.com/langhofflogandlumber/

I have all the pieces for the TV stand and coffee table roughly cut to size. The coffee table top and shelf are glued up. I have been tasked with making a small loveseat as well now. I plan to use the same leg and apron design for the base of the loveseat without the reveal piece. I want to reverse the wood so the accent is the cherry allowing the use of a medium to dark brown fabric for the cushions. The one thing I am not sure of is using the bull nose molding along the underside of the maple. On the tables the legs and bull nose are recessed under the top but that would not be the case on the loveseat. I was thinking that just a flat piece would be better, less chance of someone hitting the protruding edge with a shoe or something. Opinions?
