Belt tension

Post by Fireballxl5 »

Have new belt and end of pulleys heat up some. Is this normal for a new belt or should I adjust the tension? This is a 10-ER shopsmith.

I have not had any of the Model 10's I have restored heat up the pulleys significantly when running with a new belt. All my Model 10 restorations get a new belt. They are run for a while after reassembly and alignment. There are two things to check. First, make sure the pulleys aligned. The second is the tension. Below is a section of page 3 of SHOPSMITH Adjustments for Model 10's with those instructions.
