Can't find the serial number

I received a 1947 shopsmith from my wifes Aunt earlier this summer, all the parts were there, cleaned up nice, works great so I kinda bragged a little on the fact. The family went on a vacation to Texas for a few weeks and by the time I got back, somehow the magnetic properties of the old shopsmith drew in a younger sibling. Now I have what appears to be a basic model 500 from somewhere between 1964-1984 based on color. It has all its accessories works good, now that I've cleaned it up and lubed it. Problem is I cannot find the serial number anywhere and it looks like it has an odd table. The table looks like the ones in the photos of Mark VII's. Does anyone know where a "hidden" serial number might be? I don't need any parts but was wondering what I got.

Does it have a circular vent plate on the belt cover? That is the normal location for that vintage Mark V.

No,thats the only thing beside the lathe dead center and saw blade cover missing from a basic package as far as I can tell.

Maybe a serial number on the motor if it's original would help pin the date down. Just a guess, though.

The round plate that usually contains the serial number for vintage units is available as a replacement part; could that be the answer to this mystery?

If it is a 1947 as you stated your machine should be a model 10E or 10ER.
The serial number would be on the SS logo plate located on the front of the machine. If the logo plate is missing then so is the Ser Num.
