Re: Everything Mark 5 / V - Technical info, documentation, links

Thanks edma194! That also explains the last Mark 5 that I acquired. It didn't have the sticker but did have the 510 table upgrade. I now understand that for any used SS, there could be lots of different combinations to determine it current state. Amazing to me that were are so many, but that shows h...

Re: Everything Mark 5 / V - Technical info, documentation, links

Here is a challenge for the group (from the SS rookie)! I found a Mark 5 for sale and I asked the seller for a picture of the serial number (see attached pic). Base on the s/n documents & charts I found in this forum, 347857 was built in 1957. Looking at the picture from the add, there is what l...

Re: ShopSmith Future Direction

I've placed around 10 orders over the 2 last few months, only to cancel one small part because they didn't ship it with the rest of the same order. I called CS to asked about it. The answer was it is "pending" on a delivery to SS. I asked the CS agent to credit my CC for my delayed part, a...

Re: ShopSmith Future Direction

I just ordered a carriage table height wheel a week ago and CS says they are expecting parts to arrive around 3/27. Not sure how/why new customers are waiting 2 months for a new Mark 7. This is situation that would normally drive me BS crazy, but since I have a workaround I will wait. I wonder if th...

Re: New Member - two Mark 5 to restore

Thanks Dan, I need to find upper and lower saw guards, a disk sander, and maybe a belt sander (if the price is in my budget).

Attached pics of some Christmas trees I made from pine 2x4s (large) and white oak (small one).

Re: New Member - Recently retired & bought 2 Mark 5 500s to restore

Projects??? My wife provides the list of my projects ;) My current project is to remodel the upstairs bathroom, removing wallpaper, painting, etc. Next is to make some wooden Christmas tree porch decorations that she found online. All of her projects for me require me to get additional parts for my ...

Re: New Member - Recently retired & bought 2 Mark 5 500s to restore

Thanks Russ, The system runs great and all of this craziness is only cosmetic stuff IMO. That s/n (00350785) looks to be 1957. I sanded that engraving with 2000 grit paper, cleaned it with 3 in 1 oil, then wax/polished so now it moves much better! No plan to do any upgrade, just put it back to work ...
