I keep a old 6 ton bottle jack (Yes I know it is overkill, but it is what I have) next to the SS for adjusting the headstock in the up position. Usually I will just drop the headstock to horizontal make the adjustment and then raise it back up.

How about a floor jack and blocks. If this is going to be a long term problem, how about jacks for a light weight travel trailer or pickup mounted camper.
