In hind sight, I probably should have used the piano hinges. The pics show the ones I used, so now I have the problem of covering the 1.5" 2x4 that is exposed behind the lid. I could round-over the back, but that won't give me that much. The lid will still hit anything I put back there when opening ...

Your profile does not show where you live. If it in an area where it gets cold like here be sure to plan the insulation carefully. Bay/bow windows here are often horribly insulated. It can get to 25 below zero here and a non insulated or poorly insulated unit is about like leaving a door ajar ...

Well, I'm not sure what to say. I used Sketch-Up to design it.
All the joints are mortise and tenon joints. The top and bottom shelves are connected with pocket holes (Kreg jig).

The wife asked me to build a "cat" table so the cats could lounge there at window height to look out the window while in the office with her.
