I have an '83 500, converted to a 510 when it came out, then converted to a 520 when that came out. The conversions are pricey, but the improvements are worth it. I do think the 510 to 520 conversion is overpriced, but you can't get it anywhere else so I purchased it. Maybe it's the wrong way to use...

Good to here the bearings are such an improvement, as I just ordered them also. Also ordered the urethane tires as the tire on my idler wheel came off - the rubber was cracking and old. Unfortunately, the tires are apparently on backorder, so my band saw is out-of-service until whenever.

I keep my 520 set up for mostly for table sawing and the jointer or belt sander. I have a power station and it always has my band saw on it, and a sanding drum on the other output. I have a storage cabinet built to fit, which is were it is kept when not in use. I really don't have room for my Greeni...

Already a lot of great suggestions and info, Thanks. As far as Cottonwood smelling, when I cut it, or especially when sanding it, the odor is unpleasant, but not too bad. The wood does not have an odor otherwise. I can image it would stink if burned. Some good ideas for the Cedar too. I had planned ...

is this in addition to the 3(?) metal hooks and the big hose/airplane clamp? or instead of the clamp? where are you wrapping the strap? Ivan Mine came with one large hose type clamp for the dust filter and the three metal hooks for the dust collection bag. Looking at the parts list, I guess they co...

Your Thoughts on Cottonwood for Projects?

In September, I had a portable miller at my home to mill two Cedar trees that died, plus a Ponderosa that the power copy removed. In the middle of this, a large Cottonwood fell at a friends house, destroyed a toy trailer and hit her horse barn. We went over to clean up the mess and since the mill wa...

Shpsmith Dust Collector Tip

I just changed the collection bag on my Shopsmith Dust Collector. In the past, I've had trouble getting the bags to stay on, reverting to a little Duct Tape strip around the top of the bag to help hold it on. This time, I took a piece of plastic strapping (the kind used for supporting pipes with hol...

I ordered a toggle on/off switch in December, just got it yesterday. I called about a week ago, they said their supplier kept promising a shipment, but not delivering. You can wire the white to white and the other two wires together (black and blue I think they were) then just plug it in to start it...

Thanks for the above replies and links to information. Both of my quills seem to be in good shape, I was just wondering about the potential to upgrade them in the future, should I start having too much run out. I would not upgrade the Greenie unless something gave out. BTW, in my area, Nice machines...
