Re: Head stock and carriage stock wedges Model 10E
Peter, First off, I hope you didn't buy that manual from that ebay seller. They should not be able to profit off of someone else's work. It is a printed copy of the restored Model 10E Owner's Guide done by Everett Davis, a Forum member. It is available for free as a PDF linked to Everett's Google Dr...

Re: My Model 10-ER Journey
Real1shepperd, You said, I haven't been able to wreak the full RPM range from my speed changer. I am curious what speed ranges you are getting. The Belts should be 4L220 and 4L250. The original sizes were 4L225 and 4L 255 but are hard to find. If you bought them from Skip, they should be correct. So...

Re: 1956 Greenie Restoration
Getterdone, In looking at your picture below, I notice that the Idler Shaft Assembly appears to be held in place only by the Cap Screw, Washer and Nut. I cannot see the top side of the assembly in your picture. _ Getterdone 1956 Headstock arrow.jpg . That is the way the early Mark 5's came. Being he...

Re: First Shopsmith
Trever, If you are ordering through Mike Young the Drill Chuck would be the current one (upper right below), unless he is selling an older one from his own collection. The current Drill Chuck Shopsmith sells is different than the Jacobs 3326 Chuck although it looks similar. The picture below shows d...

Re: Longer tubes
I was just out in the shop and measured a set of Way and Bench Tubes from a 1957 Mark 5 that is disassembled. The wall thickness measures at about 0.125 so nearly the same as the one in the chart JPG recommended. My measuring could be off slightly.

Re: Longer tubes
Dusty said In all the years I have been on this forum I have not heard of a serious problem with "bent" tubes. I know of only one case of bent OEM Way Tubes on a Mark V. I met the owner of a wood shop near me who uses a Mark V in his production of custom pieces. He had replaced the Mark V ...

Re: Shopsmith 4" jointer to shelix head
Shopsmith records have the Jointer changing to Larger Diameter Cutter Head in November 1990. From 1953 with the introduction of the Model 4E Jointer until 1990 there are lot of Jointers with the original Cutter Head Assembly. 1990 until now has a lot of Jointer with the Larger Diameter Cutter Head t...

As satisfying as I find restoring these Shopsmith tools is, they are great for making projects too.

Re: Serial number lookup
delta2ul, Welcome to the Shopsmith Forum. JPG has given me my cue. Shopsmith Model 10ER serial number ER31380 was likely made in 1950 in the Eastern Plant as indicated by the ER prefix to the serial number. As you already understand there is not a lot of records as to when Model 10's were made. I ba...
