Re: Bandsaw Tire Replacement
Don't get me wrong... Shopsmith is an amazing design that has lasted the test of time. Obviously. I love it. That's why I embraced it as my go to machine for my weekend "hobby". As a Navy trained machinist, that works with metal everyday, I enjoy relaxing with wood on weekends (like my fat...

Re: Bandsaw Tire Replacement
Ok... I'll just continue doing what I do on the daily and have been for 20+ years... Fixing other peoples "repairs" and building better machines and parts. As far as "cantering" wheels, most quality band saws allow for and adjustment or "cantering" of the upper -in this...

Re: 510/520 table connector tube length
Yeah, you're right. 1/16" wall... I was obviously thinking diametrically. I wasn't aware you couldn't fit 1 7/8 in the dual tilt system. But then again, I have the ability to bore those kinda things out to fit my needs, so, kinda insignificant to me. My bad.

Re: Bandsaw Tire Replacement
Ok. Intentionally beveled. Now what happens when the tires (or wheels if bare metal wheels - not SS, I know) start to wear opposite the "intentional bevel"? They crown. And the tires should be replaced. I also have an Italian built tabletop 9" sitting in my shop waiting on parts to co...

Re: Greenie Bench Tube Size
It's in pretty nice shape and pretty cheap. If I had a way to pick it up from S.D., I would in a heart beat. I contacted the seller, and they confirmed my previous statements (sent me a pic - attached).Exactly like my tubes. I'm honestly starting to think they started out by painting the bench tubes...

Re: Bandsaw Tire Replacement
Also... Undersized wheels (due to wear or compression of the tires over time) will affect your blade tension (especially with a blade tensioning guide). Essentially affecting your your blade tracking, either pushing it into your guide bearings or throwing blades. If your wheels are'nt 11" replac...

Re: Bandsaw Tire Replacement
But for real, If anyone has a Magna "greenie" bandsaw that they have and don't want or think is too worn out to fix, hit me up. As long as the castings are good, parts should be readily available...

Re: Bandsaw Tire Replacement
I'll gladly buy your bandsaw if you don't want to go to the hassle ;) I'm actually looking for a bandsaw. There are plenty of SS inc bandsaws to go around for $200 or so. But, I would prefer a Magna that matches my machine... If nothing is worn out in the casting (not sure how they are actually buil...

Re: Greenie Bench Tube Size
Came across this Greenie in a San Diego CL ad. S#261539, looks all original including the 2 prong plug. It's tough to say from the pics without seeing it in person, but I don't think the bench tubes look painted, maybe clearcoated (but prob not in '50s), waxed heavily or something to that effect (he...

Re: 510/520 table connector tube length
Marc, I have already upgraded my bench tubes to the 1 3/4" ground steel rods offered by MetalsDepot. When I upgraded to a Double Tilt configuration this past summer I had to replace the 1 7/8" tube that I had so went with the solid steel tubes. Love the difference it makes in the overall s...
