melting pot vessel
Melting pot vases are very unusual. I'm trying to figure out how to make one.
Are these the steps:
turn to the shape you want. then saw rings off with a bandsaw, sand the outside edges of each ring and place them back in a stack.
Then turn the inside smooth.
Would like to know the real steps

Re: Shopsmith hacks
I like this. If I had a PowerPro headstock I would definitely try something similar. So the squirrel cage blower is blowing air into the headstock, correct? This gives a positive air pressure inside of the headstock compared to outside of it. Just curious if you ever find any sawdust inside of the ...

Re: Shopsmith hacks
I had to add one more hack...
Here is my second cooling fan for my SS. The first one was using a shop-vac to cool the headstock. It worked fine, cheap, filtered air and plenty of air flow. But it sure was noisy and added a little heat to the air flow. I've used the the shop-vac version for several ...

Re: Shopsmith hacks
Over the years I've made a lot of different jigs / add-ons for my Shopsmith. I'll see if I can list a few of the better ones.
Tail stock brace that's adjustable, left, right and back and forth.
After bending the quill shaft twice I built a way to convert the 5/8" shaft to 1" for turning large items ...

steady rest for the Shopsmith
I finally need a steady rest to turn a large vase. I saw this hanging on the back wall in some YT video and liked the design. Turned out great. Actually the picture is wrong. I used the tail stock just to set up this picture. Actually turned the vase without the tail stock.

Re: PowerPro low voltage
Well, I think the noise is coming from a loose aluminum pulley on the motor. or at least the slapping noise.
I tightened it about a week ago and put loctite on the set screw, but loose again and still has a rocking motion.
I thought about shimming it but think since it rocks I might as well get a ...
