Finally, it's assembled and running.
Now I have to figure out how to install controller on the headstock.
Look at that belt "clearance" at top.

Re: DIY DVR motor upgrade / replacement
I will have to cut away side wall on a new pulley because it is impossible to install a belt.
There is no clearance on the top side of the bore and belt can't pass over the right bearing onto the pulley.
Notice a bottom half cutaway on picture but zero on the top of headstock.
Am I missing ...

Re: DIY DVR motor upgrade / replacement
Today I bored one pulley to 50mm and drilled two side holes to secure it onto the spindle shaft.

Re: DIY DVR motor upgrade / replacement
Waiting for pulleys to arrive tomorrow.
In the mean time I reassembled motor and power takeoff shaft.
It is running just fine. I ran it from 100RPM up to 3500 and it's purring like a cat.
I love it.
Overall motor replacement was not difficult at all.

Re: 10ER and AO Smith 1/2hp bearings
MC master sells oil bronze bushings.
They might have right size.

Re: DIY DVR motor upgrade / replacement
I have access to CNC machines and was thinking to make a new pulley but I can't find right cutter for this pulley profile.
I can order custom made cutter but then we are talking about time and money and I just don't want to waste any of it.

Re: RE: Re: DIY DVR motor upgrade / replacement
Depending on how it is put together you may be able to replace the cracked part with something similar. Is the timing belt pulley a common size or can it be replaced with a similar sized pulley/gear? The belt length may change with a change in size. It is "L" style pulley. 3/4" belt width, 24 teeth ...

Re: DIY DVR motor upgrade / replacement
New bearings are installed and everything is ready to go but....
I just discovered lengthwise crack on timing belt pulley. It is right at key groove and looks like manufacturing defect.
I used bearing puller to disassemble everything and don't think that I caused the fracture.

Re: DIY DVR motor upgrade / replacement
Just a quick update.
New timing belt arrived and I installed it without any problem. Thanks for a link to belt calculator.
Since I had everything taken apart I noticed. Crunching bearing noise that was comming from spindle.
Spindle on my machine has two 50x80x16mm bearings and I am looking around ...

Re: DIY DVR motor upgrade / replacement
Cut 80mm pocket for motor flange on CNC mill. Everything fits like a glove.
I tried to upload video of motor running but file is to large for this forum.
New belt should be here tomorrow for a real test. JPEG_20200202_195144_2752852588717934061.jpg 20200202_192741.jpg 20200202_154341.jpg
