Whoops - forgot two things
Yes, the circuit breaker is expensive and that is because it is a dual pole. You could substitute a single pole, or if you are never going to consider 220v operation with the main motor you could change it out to 110v. The reason for the dual pole is: The circuit breaker must at least cover the hot ...

Sorry to have disappered
Sorry to have left folks in a lurch if they were following the upgrade. Life took a dramatic turn for me for the worse. My wife was diagnosed with brain cancer on Novermber 6th and ever since then life has been turned totally upside down. I haven't spent a day in the shop or working on the project s...

Not quite that easy!
I was hoping to get close to something like a speed setting recommendation. Just remember that Shopsmith and others have recommendations based on SQFM - square feet per minute. A simple setting for each wood is not possible since a piece of Hickory 2" wide is going to run through differently th...

ProPlanner Upgrade Project - Need Your Help
First a little on status: - Everything is built and on the planer - Initial tests are done - Calibration is proceeding - Documentation will be wrapped up within roughly a week I'm going to speed up the documentation a bit since the calibration is not going like I hoped. I wanted to tie wood types to...

Wood Hardness Chart Update
A quick note to let everyone know what's going on. This is a project that is of interest to me, but is usually worked on in the evening as time and other projects permit. Things are progressing and there appears to be enough interest to keep moving forward. I've added a number of wood types - the li...

Anyone interested a vinyl poster of the wood hardness chart?
I've had several suggestions about how to print and use the hardness chart. I've checked printing costs and think I can do a custom design that is prettied up and will fit an approx 24" x 33" vinyl poster for about $30. Postage would be extra, but I would do it as cheap as possible and not...

Depends on the situation
I've used shellac and also used the glue idea mentioned before. Depends on the use. MDO is great if you can find it. Another option for extreme situations is to use resin. MDF soaks it up great and it wears like iron. It also seals the ends just fine. So that's three solutions that work well - I pic...

Thanks for the input - here's the second part
Still a work in progress so I will take your ideas and continue. It's now cleaned up and just a tad larger. The second half is specifically for the ProPlanner upgrade is a speed/feed chart. You can find the pdf here => http://beasleymhb.home.comcast.net/~beasleymhb/wood hardness and speed_feed.pdf P...

Feedback on chart
The numbers come from the Janka tests. The colors match with the Pro Planer definition of feed speeds for hard (red), medium (or average, yellow), and soft (green). There is pretty good correlation on this from several sources.
