Mobility kit

Post by mbcabinetmaker »

A while back I posted about a better way to move my 510 from the shop to the trailer to the job sight etc. I wanted a simple fix that would also work with my other Shopsmith. This is what I came up with.

I made a simple axle from 5/8 round bar and attached wheels with stop collars. I mounted some small rope hooks onto the legs of the 510. By lifting the machine one end at a time the rope hooks just set over the axle. Very easy to set up and break down.

Now while the system worked pretty well by just manhandling the light end of the 510 I had a thought about using the moving handle that came with my Mini Max CU300 Smart.

It required a slight modification to one of the axles.

Now the handle just slips into the knotch.

And by lifting the handle it picks the front wheels up and I can make tight turns with ease.

If you can somehow figure out a way to connect the powerhead to the axle, you could ride that thing around the shop! :D (You'll need a long extension cord though).
