help with new belt

hello,
my name is Mike and I just got a Shopsmith from my next door neighbor and I am having a problem with adjusting the speed control.

The tool was vary dirty and need to be cleaned... After a good cleaning i am having a hard time getting the speed control right. I was running when I got the ShopSmith but the speed control was not working right now I have it working but when I start the the ShopSmith up it pops the breaker. The manual has nothing on it. I called the help line and they had me take the belt off and it did not pop the breaker. I know I am not stetting it right.... is there anybody out there that can help me out with this. mmadrid31@ymail.com or call575-3-4416

Some folks have reported popping breakers if the shopsmith is started with the speed set above slow. I'll bet if we solve your speed control problems and get the machine oiled well, your breaker popping will stop.

What happens when you try to change speeds?

Also, do not change speeds unless the shafts are rotating (either by hand or under power).
