My winter project has been moved from the garage to the shop. Last winter I restored S/N 83974. That restore can be found here.

This winter it is that ones younger brothers (S/N 83973) turn. This one has an AO Smith 3/4HP motor. 83974 has an AO Smith 1/2HP motor. So far the only problem with disassembly is I can not get the head stock pulley off of the drive sleeve. It has had two applications of Kroil and sat for a week. It will not move. Next attempt I will use a torch to heat up the pulley. The pulley is damaged so I may have to figure out a way to cut it off. I do have a spare pulley but if heat does not work I might need a drive sleeve and spacer.

I have Skips Balanced ones on all of mine and the nephews. They are the best!!! But if you want to keep it all original, I have a few HS original pulleys laying around. Free for you in appreciation for all here you give. Just pm me if so with the Eagles Nest address at the end of the road.

I don't need the pulley. I have one. If I can't get the pulley off I will need a drive sleeve and spacer.
This one will be my permanent dedicated drill press. The 10ER drill press I have now is actually a demo machine. It has the decal on the back side of the head stock. It has not been restored and when it is it will be a display machine with a 4E jointer and a full set of the MK V SPT adapters for the 10ER.

What do you mean a "Demo Machine"? Restore and sell? Which I dont have problem with, they will go to good user homes. Just curious?

The demo machines that Magna used had either a decal or the SS logo plate with out a S/N on the back side of the head stock. That way customers could see the brand. My understanding is that the demo machines Montgomery Wards used had the decal on the back of the head stock. Looking forward to seeing this progress.
I too, have been given another 10ER and I am in "rebuild" on that also. For now, I am not painting, just disassembling and cleaning. I will start a thread later!

The pulley attaches to the drive sleeve which has two bearings and a spacer that reside just inside the headstock back end. The splined quill shaft slides through it.
