A question for you Other early vintage 10E Owners

Another curious production change that I noticed occurred between the release of the Preliminary Manual (which I am in the process of restoring now) and the first 10E Owner's Guide they promised to release soon, within it.

The 10E's had a User Supplied Plywood Extension Table and a "Y" Mounting base for it.

Among the earliest MAGNA Shopsmiths produced were different than those soon after which had a production change occur even before the first Owner's Guide was released.

It was a change where part number 104-2 Tailstock Square Stud, was changed adding a 2nd threaded stud, washer and wing-nut just like the one above, and the knob 104-6 was replaced with a wing-nut.

Refer to the two part illustrations below.

I do know that it was still present on my 10E sn 1414 as illustrated.

I wonder how many 10E's produced after 1414 still had the Square Stud, and at what point it changed.

My #6834 has the plywood base and two round studs.

SN 3779 has two studs and wingnuts and plywood aux table.

SN E-1750 has only one "nubbin" on the headstock. It came to me with an upgrade 10ER tailstock and aux table installed, but the originals were still in the goody box. Two threaded studs and a wingnut on this one.

In other news, while checking on these parts, I discovered that the goody box also contained a "very rare 10E original table raiser". It was disassembled, and I had no idea what the parts were for until I recalled and found that post. Thanks, guys! Not bad for a $140 machine that also included a speed changer!

It is hard to find. I have seen only a handful.

If you ever decide to part with the early table raiser, I would love to have first crack at it. I will of course be willing to offer more than the $3.95 original price.

The appeal of the newer design that replaced it was that the majority of the mechanism was removed with the table, opposed to being installed on the carriage.

I have only seen maybe three. The one I have Buckeye's and maybe one other on eBay. They all had the straight sided main body casting. Has anyone seen the angled body casting pictured in the manual?

To my knowledge, all of the ones I have seen are like yours. I have not seen one like depicted in the manual for them, yet.

I saw one in Houston, one in Denver, and one in Oklahoma City that I can recall through the years. None were being offered for sale as they were on or with the owners machines.

The one in Houston had the lower pulley belt guard that attached to the motor mount plate, and it had the lower blade guard. It was the first time I had seen either of those too in person.

I'll probably hang on to it Everett. My 10ER came with a complete/intact jointer setup, so I have a good start on a pretty complete museum piece. I've also seen a couple of original SPT adapters and once even a lower saw guard lurking in CL goody boxes nearby, but someone else got to them before I could. If I change my mind for some reason, you will most certainly get first dibs on the table raiser.

Around here, I suspect I am more a museum piece than any of my Shopsmiths! They have worked for decades, don't require much maintenance, and keep on working...
