ShopSmith Caster upgrade issues?

Nope. I did not have that problem with the three sets that I have installed.

I have one set yet to be installed. When I get that task done I'll try to remember to post my update.

I suspect that patience and finesse rather than a hammer might have been the better tools to use. OR: Maybe a rat tail file in the newly drilled holes.

In my opinon that's total waste of time. You can't tell unless you get on your knees and use macro mode on your camera. Took all of a minute vs 30 minutes to loosen all the leg bolts and try to shift things into a different position when the legs already sit flat on the floor.

I mention it because some of our differently abled members may encounter the same situation and not be able to expend the energy and time to "finesse" it.

I always forget how there hundreds of posts struggling to position the casters into correct position. I've never had an issue, my larger wheelsets just tickle the floor when up and clear the cracks in my shop floor when lowered. Some of us have projects to complete and a full time job on the side

It is very kind of you to consider those of us who no longer move around the shop as freely as we maybe once did. I do appreciate that thought and the consideration.

As far as wasting time, I probably have no appreciation. As a long retired old goat...I have nothing but time to spend finessing.

Well, I finally got around to installing the upgraded casters on my 1998 Mark V (original owner). I just wanted to say thank you to all on this thread for their feedback on the install, as well as some of the other previous caster threads I read here. Rather than flip the unit over, as the instructions indicate, I used a floor jack. I think someone else already suggested this on a previous thread here. It worked great. Using a cordless drill, I just went slow and held gentle pressure on the backside while drilling. I used the drilling guide from Shopsmith and had no problems with the location of the holes giving me the desired lift from the casters when elevated that I wanted. For my vintage of Mark V, everything went smooth doing it this way, but I appreciate all of the feedback and suggestions for what to watch out for from past posts here. If you do use a jack, as I did, just make sure you get the jack centered and be safe with it, of course. Shopsmith has the caster upgrade on sale right now, so I highly recommend anyone that has been wanting it to jump on this now while it is on sale. The drilling guide jig is a free bonus right now with it (and well worth it IMHO).
