Head stock and carriage stock wedges Model 10E

Comparing your levers to my levers, you will notice that mine have a stop washer with a 1/8" step so that the step sits inside the bore in the head carriage thus making the wedge length critical.
Is this the same with your levers, or is there just a washer next to the wedge?

If you look at the picture of the Brass Wedge Locks I posted previously, you can see the outside diameter of the washer is smaller than the wedges diameter. The washers can pass into the lock holes in the Headstock and Carriage as needed.

Do you have a picture of all the lock parts only you can post? That would give me a clearer idea of what you have and need. The picture of the levers (handles) was helpful but because of the differences between the US and Australian made Model 10's all of the lock parts you have would be more helpful as a reference.

Ok, your description of your smaller washer as against my stop washer explains the difference in the operation of the outer wedge between the US and AUS made levers. Mine requires a more critical outer wedge length.
I have left the levers and remaining wedges with the fabricator who is making up 6 new brass wedges, but will send images for your reference when they return.

Thank you for posting the pictures. What I see would be hard to describe. The first picture shows the end rounded somewhat. I haven't seen a wedge with the end rounded like that before. The damage around the nut shouldn't happen in normal use. Either the casting was bad or it was damaged outside of the Headstock.

Something my previous pictures didn't show well is the brass wedges have both sides beveled to go against the Quill or Way Tube as seen in the picture below.

Having a single bevel like the later alloy wedge or a double bevel like the brass wedge above, know that either will work fine. The only plus to having two bevels on the wedge gives a second surface to go against the Quill or Way Tube should the first bevel becomes worn. It will take a lot, and I mean a lot, of use to wear on the brass wedge. As you can see on the brass set of locks, I previously posted and the wedge above, there is very little wear on them. Pretty good since they are from 1947. That's a lot of years of use.
