Those are the other two platens for the strip sander.

Your Strip Sander has the 1" Platen installed. The 1/2" and 1" curved are the other two that come with the Strip Sander. Below is a picture of a Strip Sander with the 1" Platen installed and the other two Platens on its Table.

There is a fourth Platen for use with the Lathe Chisel Sharpening Attachment that is 1" wide with a slight bend. The picture below is the Strip Sander with the Lathe Chisel Sharpening Attachment installed. The Chisel Sharpening Attachment replaces the Table for use. Note the slight bend in the Sanding Belt near the middle of the Platen.

The Strip Sander with the Chisel Sharpening Attachment above is being used on the Base/Arm end of the Mark V with a Conventional Headstock. The Headstock Hub and Coupler are attached to the Quill's Spindle. This is to run the Sanding Belt in reverse (bottom to top) which is needed when using the Chisel Sharpening Attachment. When mounted on the Headrest end the Sanding Belt runs top to bottom. A Power Pro Headstock can be run in forward or reverse. No need to switch ends.

There are only a couple more pieces left in the pictures below.

The first picture I think goes into the tailstock, I just cant figure out what purpose it has to do so or if it is not whole.

I believe I found the Screw for the lathe center it fits to nice not to belong.

the third picture I believe is a router or shaping set, I don't know if it is complete I know there are no cutting heads, I have seen the similar shaft with a big round cutting head.

the fourth picture i have also seen reference as a part of a router head.

the fifth picture might not even be a part but it has the same paint scheme.

the 6th and 7th are the chucks, I don't know how to separate the tail from the chuck, i didn't want to force anything trying to unscrew it. the smaller one has a threaded shaft where i would expect there to be smooth to put on the power head. so i don't think it is the one that goes to the unit. or I'm missing whatever threads into it to go onto the powerhead.

I'm pretty bummed out, or at least upset at myself for not having more knowledge about the parts before i bought this. right now I'm missing the

saw arbor
rip fence
lathe tool support
sanding disk
possible the drill chuck

thinking i could buy another full system for cheaper then trying to piece together these parts.

Whoo wee. Sorry you are correct. They are not OEM SS. Now that is not all bad. The one with the MT2 taper will fit the tailstock. The chuck has a "33" taper which can be pressed out IF it is accessable from the depths of the bit end. The other chuck is the better of the two, but does not have the SS 5/8" bore. Likely 1 1/2" thread

The third picture is actually two items. The 1/2" Universal Arbor part numbers 505505 and the set of 4 Shaper Rub Collars part number 505604. The Shaper Rub Collars are intended for use on the 1/2" Universal Arbor with Shaper Cutters. The 1/2" Universal Arbor has been discontinued. They are the 2 versions on the top right in the picture below. The Machined Spacer and the 2 Machined Washers are not used when using it for shaping with a rub collar. The rest of the top row are earlier versions of the 1/2" Arbor from the oldest beginning on the left.

The 1/2" Shaper Arbor with collars part number 555117 replaced the 1/2" Universal Arbor for the Shaper function. The Shaper Arbor can be seen in the lower left in the picture below. It is the same Arbor as version 2 of the 1/2" Universal Arbor without the Spacer or 2 Washers but includes the Rub Collar set. The Shaper Collar set 505604 is on the lower right. The rest of the Spindles below are the different ones made through the years for shaping.

The item in the fifth picture may be the Base Plate to the gray Shopsmith Scroll Saw.

a question about the tapered drill chuck, if it slides into the tail stock, how does it spin, is there a bearing or something in the tailstock to allow it to spin.


i was able to get a line on a 510 table with the uprights and carriage for a pretty good price.

It doesn't spin. The drill bit is stationary; the workpiece you're drilling spins

The tapered end does NOT spin(that is the job of the quill). The intended purpose is to allow the drill chuck/bit to be held stationary while the quill/workpiece revolves. A live center has a bearing which allows the center to revolve with the workpiece.

A bit different from "normal" lathe procedure(more ways than one).

BTW if that tapered chuck really goes all the way to "0" it is a keeper.
