Hi all,
I just completed my new miter saw station and thought others looking to make their sliding miter saw more versatile, mobile, reduce saw dust and etc. I wrestled with what I wanted in a mobile station off and on for a couple of years. I ran across plans for a station in the "Fine WoodWorking Tools and Shops" magazine that fit the bill. The issue is winter 2009. About the only thing I changed was to reduce the cabinet height by 1 in. It has a shop vac installed in the cabinet and locking swivel casters got from Woodcraft. The saw and vac are connected to an outlet that activates the vac when I pull the trigger on my saw. I have a Makita 10" slider mounted on the stand. My shop is only 16 x 24 so space is a little tight.

I did not equip with Shopsmiths in spite of the setups but because of them.

That is exactly the one that I saw on the FW'ing web site (my wife purchased me a subscription for the web version for Christmas). Very nice job!
Haven't built mine yet but I am planning to soon (I always say that!). I did see one change I might make and that is to have the 'arms' on the side slide out rather than be hinged. Still pondering that change to the design. Going to use the same basic box design (with drawers) for a roll around stand for my router table.

I studied the plans and thought this through for close to 2 years (I have a real job that takes me out of town a lot) but there is nothing like making the first cuts and moving forward. I really enjoyed the process of bulding the station and have found it to be very functional. In talking about the "arms" the plans called for 2 strap hinges but I didn't think that would be adequate so I used piano hinges. The wings extended with support arms in place are rock solid.
