Bill - your "JMHO" is exactly the same as mine.

The pre PP airflow was in through the vent plate(and most other holes) into the motor(non-shaft end) out into the fan sheave shroud and out the louver in the bottom of the motor pan.

With the PP fan pushing air into the motor(non-shaft end) and I assume again out through the louver, the air intake is all other holes as well.

But now there is a bunch of other stuff in the way that also gives off heat.

I do not think anything replaces the fan sheave shroud to direct exhaust out the louver.


I am assuming much here not having hands on experience.

It is possible the airflow out the open belt cover opening would normally have exited out the louver.

So a question I have is - how much air flow is exiting through the louver?

Also how does the air flow get from the shaft end of the motor to the louver?

As I see it, flow needs to be in from the vent cover etc., over the electronics, into the fan, through the motor and out the louver.

I think I would remove the vent cover to increase intake flow. That would greatly increase the effective open area. That however assumes that all above is accurate.

Also you are correct in that nothing has replaced the fan sheave fan effect. There is supposed to be a fan on the spindle end of the motor but I did not build my PP I bought the factory assembled headstock so I am really not sure.
The manual that is received with my PP is very short on information. In addition, I don't think there is anything on line such as an exploded parts diagram specifically for the PP. Sure would like to see one, as well as a schematic of the power supply.

I just recently picked up a used PowerPro and the manual had the Parts list and exploded view. Hope this helps.

Well that answers the air direction question.

No deflection of air 'OVER' the motor out towards the louver.

With all those heat sink/radiators my guess is sawdust buildup was a concern.

Congratulations, Stew! This is the first USED PowerPro acquisition I've heard of. The used market is not too far away.

You can attempt to explain things but I think this says something about the powerpro operations. You are quite correct that having a lot of dust on the parts and heat sinks would not be a good thing.

Have a Power Pro Upgrade but have not done any routing. Have read the entire thread and was wondering why SS has not made any comments. Seems that they should have some input into this subject.

SS probably has not made any comments because they have not found the problem if it even exists other than bad components. They are repairing the known defects under warranty.

The PP has been out for a long time. Were there any problems in the beginning? It seems to me this is a recent development so has something changed with the components of the PP from Technatool?

I still believe this is a Technatool issue and SS will make it right.
