Re: Rebel

Extra - I'm impressed by all your ingenuity and taking used lumber to create new things. Always impressive! Setting aside all the non-woodworking commentary (it's a painful subject for some and for so many others it's not about that at all) but I think you are generally on to a very unique idea. Wha...

Re: Rebel

Since this is a privately run website, it won't bother me to have my post deleted, but I won't sit quiet if others are going to weigh in. That off topic discussion should be moved to "community". Neither I nor davebodner brought it up in the first place. Take a look back and start with th...

Re: Rebel

You have every right to display the flag in any way you want. No one will take that away from you. But there's a difference between private speech and government speech. And I'm happy that some state and local governments are backing away from that flag. I'm not trying to provoke a debate. That wou...

Re: How far?

Extramile, you did good in my book. I want to see how that lumber cleans up. For all the naysayers the cheapest I can find mahogany (REAL mahogany) on the internet is $6 a board foot and $10 is not unusual. I'm guessing he's got about 30 board feet (5'x3'x2"). Plus, where Extramile lives is not...

Re: A Slow Boat To Nowhere

I have an 18.5. ' shoal-draft skiff called Pilgrim. I built her 14 years ago. I'm looking at her now at the dock. A story about her is the lead article in the online magazine Small Boats Monthly. Building and maintaining a wooden boat is not work. It is a Zen experience. Keep going! Lots of help is...

Re: Another 10er Craigslist question

Well it's 200 miles away but that's not all too far. I'm in Austin and drove that far and back to get my 520 with DC, bandsaw, jointer. The older I've gotten (I'm 52) the more I've decided not to worry too much about a few extra bucks here and there. On the other hand, I have plenty to do with what ...

Re: Another 10er Craigslist question

Thanks I was thinking the same thing on price. It looks well kept / maintained compared to almost all others I've seen. That made the price more palatable. I need another "project" like I need another... Can anyone explain the allure of the old machines? Even greenies and goldies. Back to ...

Another 10er Craigslist question

At the risk of someone else seeing this and beating me to it (as if shopsmith people don't already spend 23 hours a day scouring craigslist ;) ), does this look like a decent deal? http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/tls/5106414074.html I don't even know how to use a lathe so would likely sell most of ...

Re: Today in the shop (I don't know what to call it??)

I'm kind of new here, but in honor of the magnets, I'll submit "Bipolar Attachment Tool Tray". BAT Tray for short.

I could see variations of that for holding stuff in the horizontal position, too. You're posts are always very interesting.
