I don't recall using it on melamine, though I'm sure that won't be an issue.

I buy stuff like that from Outwater Plastics. They have minimum quantities to deal with but the prices can make that worthwhile. Otherwise, I believe Woodcraft or Rockler will have it.

If I needed to drill studs to pull wire, a Speedbor mounted in one of those big honking right-angle drills would be just the ticket.

Absolutely you should DIY! Then, if you find you can't get it back together properly, you can send it off in a pre-disassembled state, just to save the guy some labor :rolleyes:

Kidding aside, it's a great way to learn the inner workings and see what parts need maintenance, and how to get to them ...

Terry, how's your 3 wheel assembly working out? I've been using a couple of single wheels on arbors and think I would like to step that up a bit.

Is the 1/2" all thread thick enough? I see that the commercially made units use 3/4 threaded rod; is that for ease of adaptation to a #2MT, or ...

A thought......You might be able to rack the frame a little to make up some of the misalignment. Loosen the set screws in the tie bar and the base arm and try shimming under the tie bar to see if it affects the alignment. If it works you could then try shimming under the headrest for a more ...

I just thought of something. Put the spur drive center on the spindle, but don't tighten the screw. Put the dead center LOOSELY in the tailstock. Now, turn each one, and see if there is any wobble from either one.

It could be a bent center, instead of the tailstock.

The original, outboard unit is .1", measured (to the best of my ability) with a cheap digital indicator and magnetic stand.

The 1/2-13 crank? Yeah, that one's .077
