Need help with my Troy bilt lawn tractor

My friend is giving me his 17.5 hp lawn tractor. I started it up the other day, I should say I tried to start it up. It ran for about 30 sec then cut off. I bought a new battery (old one was dead) and new spark plug. Now it just makes a "noise" when I try to start it. It is like a GRRRR so...

Maybe you can let the kids cut dovetails with a dovetail saw. 1. Pre-mark the board. 2. Kids cut out the lines. 3. Next group chisels out the waste.
