Re: More On Disappointed In MiterSet

The table needs to be braced with an extension table and tubes also. Angle AND length need to be right on for perfect fits of course For my needs I'm looking into a small adjustable sled just for my octagon pieces for my clocks If the source of the problem is in the SS, then wouldn't a sled require...

Re: Comfortable using the table saw?

I On the other hand, my 5 foot nothing daughter thinks my table saw is too low and thinks the SS is about right, so it really is personal preference. I'm 5'-4" and have been using Shopsmiths for 60 years and the table height seems fine to me. So I do agree that it is a matter of what you are u...

Re: More On Disappointed In MiterSet

If I get a chance later today I will try to post an image of what I am thinking. Here is a link to a page that shows more or less what I was thinking: http://segmentedturning.com/cutting.htm It looks like my wheel has already been invented😁 And his clamping method is simpler and more practical than...

Re: More On Disappointed In MiterSet

What could be simpler than squaring the miter gauge to the miter track than using the MiterSet? Well, sometimes I take the miter gauge, loosen the head, turn it upside down and set the bar in the slot and then snug the face of the gauge against the front rail of the table. As you point out, the tab...

Re: More On Disappointed In MiterSet

. Years ago I went to the Miter-Pro, also from SS, this was way before the MiterSet was offered. It works well within its limitations, meaning four-sided objects. - David Over the years I have been enlisted by my artist wife to build picture frames for her pieces. About ten or fifteen years ago she...

Re: More On Disappointed In MiterSet

RFGuy; I don't have the aluminum version. Mine is the older plywood one. The heavy cardboard box it came in was marked "Shopsmith Version". It doesn't have the plastic case and I don't see any other reference to it being the Shopsmith Version, so it seems if you are not sure you will have ...

Re: More On Disappointed In MiterSet

Great picture, RFGuy. It clearly shows the need for the "6” aluminum bar for the Shopsmith version" mentioned in the manual. Sounds like maybe some of the Shopsmith versions got shipped without it. As for the "slop", I double checked my Standard Miter Set and found that my gray m...

Re: More On Disappointed In MiterSet

David...I read the " symbol as meaning inch in this context, rather than seconds. RFGuy...as far as I know, there has never been a change in the width of the miter bars. You are right...pictures would help clarify things with this issue. By the way, I followed up on your post by finding the man...

Re: More On Disappointed In MiterSet

Thanks for posting the link to the manual, RFGuy.. the manual contains this sentence: "Some miter gauges have a narrow face and may require the addition of a sacrificial face extension to reach all sector holes on the MiterSet jig. We include a 6” aluminum bar for the Shopsmith version for just...
