Re: 10ER almost done

Very sweet looking restoration! I really like your idea of extending the bench top to hold your lathe tools. Looks like it will work well. There are lots of good books and endless hours of YouTube videos on the subject of turning and all the various types of turnings. It can get overwhelming. Being ...

Re: Mark V Speed Control

There was a thread a few years back about using a handheld laser tachometer to monitor output speeds and to make high speed adjusting more accurate. Just thought I would bring it up again, since these little devices work so well and are not expensive...under $20. I use one to check speeds a couple o...

Re: Routing a moulding

Very clever setup and it made for good looking results. Thanks for sharing. Also, it's further proof that the Shopsmith can work well as a router/shaper.

Re: Small Pieces - Kickback

Of course you could make a sled or just a "V" shaped cutout (as was mentioned) in a piece of lumber that the log could rest in for the cut. This could be used with the miter gauge to make that cut safer. Very good point that a v-block cradle can be used with the tablesaw as well as the ba...

Re: Small Pieces - Kickback

I was trying to push a 3" length of mesquite through the band saw with a board. Circumference PARALLEL to the blade. Sure enough, it got spinning and took off! I still haven't found it. The final straw was trying to cut the 1/2" piece off the mesquite. I wish I'd gotten to the switch earl...

Re: Routing a moulding

My Shopsmith is a Mark V 500, so the faster RPM of hand-held router should also help. My thought to use the Shopsmith, even with it's slower speed, was because I didn't think a bit this large could (or should) be used in a hand-held router. Just a thought...with a Shopsmith Speed Increaser you can ...
